The weather in Devon has been so fantastic recently, and very warm for November, but that’s all changed now sadly. I’m ready to switch up my winter skincare routine ready for the colder months though!
Is Skincare Important?
Yes, and not just in the colder months. Having a skincare routine helps your skin stay in good condition. It helps prevent acne, treats wrinkles and fine lines, and helps keep that healthy glow! Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and skincare is important for your health (think SPF!).
Does It Need to Be Complicated?
Skincare doesn’t need to be complicated! It’s important to choose products that are right for your skin. All too often we buy products based on marketing, not what it really needs, so it’s important to develop an awareness and understanding of your own skin. I literally started with Dream Clean Cleanser, and Cool Balm Moisturiser, and gradually built up my skincare products from there!
Do I Need To Switch It Up For The Colder Months?
Probably! My skin tends to get a lot drier and more dehydrated in the winter months. Most of us tend to spend more time indoors with the heating on, or if you’re like me and have animals, we’re out in all weathers and our skin is at the mercy of the elements!
Simple Switches To Keep Your Skin Happy And Healthy!
~ Switch to a creamy cleanser….Quench Cleanse is a beautiful creamy cleanser containing Aloe, Rose Flower Water, and Sunflower, and it’s incredibly nourishing and hydrating. A foaming cleanser may strip the natural oils from your skin leaving it with that tight, dry feeling.
~ Use a gentle exfoliator and a nourishing mask….Sometimes we all like that feeling of a good scrub, but during the winter your skin is more delicate, so save that for the summer months! Lemon Skin Polish is a perfect way to gently exfoliate your skin, thanks to the natural JoJoba beads, but it also doubles as a hydrating mask! Simply exfoliate in small circular motions for 1 minute, leave on for 10 minutes, then wipe off with a damp cloth to reveal gorgeous, glowing, hydrated skin!
~ Use a rich moisturiser….I always tend to use a light moisturiser in the summer months, but change it to one with a thicker consistency when it starts to get colder. My favourite winter skincare moisturiser is Green Smoothie. It contains Alfalfa extract, which is a natural alternative to wrinkle fighting retinol and is rich in antioxidants! It’s also packed with a combination of Flax and Celery super-seed extracts, which brings firmness and density to your skin. It’s also a refillable product too so you’re looking after our planet as well as your skin. You can read more about it here.
~ You still need to use SPF!….Dd you know, while UVB levels (the ones that cause sunburn!) drop during the winter, UVA levels (they’re the ones that cause premature ageing!) are still significant? This is why it’s so important to wear at least SPF30 every day. The wind, rain, and cold can really dry out your skin leaving it dull and flaky. Protection from the weather is important all year round!
~ Introduce a facial oil….Facial oils contain essential fatty acids and antioxidants that can help seal in moisture to keep your skin hydrated during the winter months. Dew Date Oil is 99.1% organic, and contains Sunflower and Palmarose Oils to help promote a healthy radiant glow. It’s also perfect for adding a drop to your LimeLife Perfect Foundation to create a ‘CC Cream-like’ texture if you prefer a more dewy look to your makeup?
Conclusion
Yes, you may need to make a few tweaks to your winter skincare routine. Protection and hydration is your best defence against the elements! Vegan, plant-based skincare formulas are more often packed with vitamins and antioxidants, and free from harmful chemicals. It’s good news for animals too, especially if the products are Leaping Bunny Certified Cruelty Free. You are helping make the world a safer place for animals….cruelty has no place in beauty.
